WildCard: Nerd Speak- The Future of the MCU/Inclusion

Image
This year for a couple of my final wild card presentations I decided to do a vlog theme. I enjoy talking as I'm sure you've figured out by now. I'll be covering the potential future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. What projects are upcoming, when will the X-Men show up, who's missing in terms of representation? Lots of questions come to mind so I'll attempt to answer a few of them. This isn't anything too fancy, I'll speak to you casually as if you were one of my fellow nerds around my college dorm. Good news, if you can make it through the entire video then you can become an official honorary nerd too.

Forecasting the Future: What Does it Hold?

As someone who grew up in the age of rapid expansion of media and communication I have been seeing the future unfold first hand. From the days of dial-up internet to modern times of having essentially a computer in your pocket at all times. Internet becoming regularized in households was a game changer and with cellphones being almost an essential to everyday life it's taken things a step further. As a child my hopes for the future were very high. All the old media promised us flying car and clean living by now but the reality is still rather impressive when we think of the place we started from. Back before internet the postal service or a telephone were the two main options. The postal service is often slow and unreliable even today and landlines were extremely limited.        While I didn't get a flying car what I did get was an all in one device that allows me to connect with people anywhere in the world at any given time. The cellphone being ...

Cyber Security- The Reality/Basics

Back before the age of internet and more so the age of modern technology, it wasn't too difficult to protect ones assets and privacy. Want to protect your money? Bury it in your back yard like a kooky old prospector, put it under your mattress, put it in a safe, carry a double barrel shotgun and let someone even think about jumping your wagon and seeing what happens. Want privacy? Build a giant fence around your house, get a guard dog, plant land mines in your yard. All jokes aside there are becoming increasingly more ways to have your privacy violated or your money stolen out from under you, this is due to our societies reliance to technology, especially the kind that requires internet connectivity. As a reluctant member of Gen Z I have a better idea of what "hacking" and "leaks" can mean than some of the older demographic. Granted, I do only have limited computer knowledge so let's just hit the basics you may not be aware of when it comes to hacking...

Internet Innovators- McDonalds

Image
In the digital age there's an app for nearly everything whether it be controlling smart appliances or sports betting. Ordering food is no exception, in fact I would say it makes perfect sense. Minimizing human interaction is an introverts dream and ironically very helpful during the current pandemic. Not all apps are particularly well programmed or useful. Some offer specific incentives for using them. The McDonalds app is the perfect example of something that's practical, easy to use, and preferable to the standard drive through alternative. What is it that makes this app a must have for college students? Is it the ability to eliminate some of the awkwardness of ordering, having great deals, or cutting down wait times? I would say confidently that it's all three.      It goes without saying that my generation has a bit of an issue with anxiety. I myself struggle with it frequently. Some days you just dont' feel like speaking t...
